I have the same issue with my car. It's a Black Edition built in 12/24. I have also recorded it three times, but Dealer told me there is no error documented in the control unit.

I had the error for the first time when I was driving home from Wolfsburg.

Will report here when I get new information.

    Hello!

So I have some news! My dealer raised a technical inquiry for a second time where it was asked of them to contact the factory. The factory have confirmed they are aware of the issue and they are in the process of developing new buttons for the steering wheel to fix the issue. Tell your dealer to raise a technical inquiry with your technical team to contact the factory so you can be added to the list of problem vehicles!

Here is what the factory said:

"I have now received some information from the technical department regarding the fault with your Golf. After attaching the video and the further information you kindly supplied to the technical enquiry they have responded. The enquiry was forwarded to the factory, and they have stated that multifunction buttons are currently being developed with a new software version but there is no indication of what the timeline will be for the replacement parts and the factory have suggested a postponement of the repair until the buttons are available.”

    Hi, Matt

I have spoken with my local dealer this morning, and albeit they are in the UK, they state they cannot find any outstanding recalls on my vehicle or any information in relation to the order given by Volkswagen to replace the steering wheel or even any acknowledgement of the issue. Are you able to provide where they go to get this information or the issue/reference number?

    Thank you!

He shouldn't have to ask you anything - it is an official KD item (meaning "Kundendienst" = customer service) and as such, you can just describe the issue to your local VW dealer and he should either already know about it or he's able to read about it in the internal KD channels. Anyhow, I'll see if I can get you the issue number.

That would be great if you could thank you!

Hey guys, your problems stem from an issue with the steering wheel; the shift paddle electronics have sort of a bug and stop working after a while, which leads to the car not recognizing them anymore and automatically switch back to S (because you can't shift in M without paddles and would be stuck with the current gear unless manually switching back to S...).

Volkswagen knows about this issue and the dealers are ordered to exchange your steering wheel until a better fix is available. This will not happen to steering wheels build after November 2024 and it will not happen to pre-PA / facelift cars. If enough customers complain about this and get new steering wheels, they are supposed to issue a callback - so whoever has this problem, feel free to complain at your local dealer.

This is very interesting to read. I assumed it was a problem with the vehicle software but the fact its actually the steering wheel that is faulty makes more sense. Where did you get this information from may I ask as I am sure my local dealer will ask me?

    Hello JetMan

Intresting. I own my Golf 8.5 R now for almost a month and probaly used the M+ mode around 10-12 times after carefully driving the engine/gearbox for the first 1000 km. I also suffered "only" once so far from this problem. The car did not shift up or down, it stayed in S+-Mode. Changing the drivemode from "special" to "comfort" and back to "special" didn't solve the problem. So I turned the car off and the problem was gone after restarting the car, strange. I will observe this problem and will give you notice if it will reappear.

Thank you! What driving mode do you use? My dealership raised a technical bulletin with the factory and they said:

"I would suggest to check against a suitable comparison vehicle - the owners manual suggests that M+ mode is only available fully in either 'Drift' or 'Special' Driving profiles. From the video, it suggests the customer is using 'Individual'. I suspect the operation described may be normal"

Which is alot of rubbish! If anyone else has this issue, please take to the dealer and get them to raise a technical bulletin!

    Hello there,

I recently purchased a brand new Volkswagen Golf R 8.5 and every journey without fail, whilst I am in M+ or M mode, the car will suddenly kick me out of that mode and put me in S mode. Once it does this, I can no longer get the vehicle back into M mode and neither of the shift paddles do anything. The only way to fix the issue is to stop the car, turn off the engine and start again. This suggests to me there is a software issue with the car. I have mentioned this in the UK forum and a number of people have experienced the same issue as mine with their 8.5. Has anyone else experienced this issue yet?

    Many thanks.

    Hallo,

    Vielen Dank.
